New HQ Information

Our new headquarters project took another big step forward on the 20th February. After 6 months the local council approved our planning application. Having secured the 99 year lease on the land in 2015 the next step was always replacing the ageing building.

This is a massive undertaking for the Group but will enable it to continue delivering Scouting to the local community well into the future.

We currently have 120 young people attending the Group every week.

Parents tell us Scouting gives their children more confidence, responsibility and a broader set of friends. Scouting can help develop your child's social skills and encourage self-sufficiency, and gives them access to activities and opportunities that may have been otherwise unavailable to them.

Scouting is all about building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure, education, and fun! Scouts learn how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions so that they are prepared for their adult life as independent persons.

Replacing the building will allow the dedicated volunteers that are the leader teams continue to deliver quality Scouting to the local community in an environment that is fit for purpose

We have been in our current building for the last 47 years and it is showing its age, for what is essentially a 1950's shed.

The new building will be nearly a third larger than the current one and will be laid out in a more user friendly way. The kitchen and toilets and entrance lobby will be in between two big halls with the equipment stores on the end of the building. With the Scout Shop off the entrance lobby.

The new building will be of wooden construction but using modern materials and fully insulated. We have also included a living roof and are looking at other environmentally friendly options.

The estimated cost for the new building is in the region of £300,000. We have £60,000 towards this and will be applying for grants and donations. The young people of the Group will be undertaking fundraising projects in the coming months.

Funding dependent, the aim is for building to commence May 2020 and be completed September 2020 in time for the Groups 50th anniversary celebrations.

We have been talking to PACE next door with a view to them having use of the building occasionally during the day so that we get good use from the new building and this is being explored further

We have set up a Virgingiving site should you wish to make a donation to the building fund.
